Interview with Mel Colvin for Inspire Photo Retreats

So excited to be featured as an ‘I am Inspire’ interview for the Inspire Photo Retreats community! Inspire’s mission is to foster & maintain a supportive community where photographers are encouraged & empowered to grow in their lives and businesses through innovative curriculum in the areas of Craft, Vision & Business. I can’t wait to experience my Inspire Retreat – it’s always amazing to meet other people who share in the same passion of photography that I do! Read my interview below:

What did you do on your most recent day off?
On my most recent day off, I was able to spend time with family and watch my cousins soccer games. Then we all went trick-or-treating. It is good to try and take a much needed day off especially during busy season! Taking time for you will only make you more productive in the long run!

What are your passions outside of photography?
Outside of photography I love to volunteer. I teach an after school program at a local high school in Rhode Island. I am also a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State. I also recently started mentoring a high school student that is looking to become a photographer in the future. Volunteering makes me feel like I am giving back and making a difference. I am extremely grateful to all the people that guided me along the way from when I was little to mentoring me to become a photographer and business owner. This is my way of giving back. It makes my heart happy!

What is your definition of success?
My definition of success is a smiling face and a happy heart. If I am making a couple or a families heart melt when viewing my photos, I feel that I have truly become successful. Success is surrounding yourself with love and happiness. When my clients are happy, I am happy.

What are you looking forward during the off-season?
I am looking forward to re-organizing my business and my office during down season! Having the time to come up with new ideas. Also, having time to snuggle up on the couch with some hot cocoa and watch the snow fall like the true homebody I am! …Also, looking forward to INSPIRE PHOTO RETREAT!!
